Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to Debut Full Body ScannersPosted: Friday December 16, 2011 The Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport has announced it is receiving new, state-of-the-art full body scanners to aid with security measures in 2012. These millimeter wave Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) units will have new software that officials said will enhance privacy by eliminating passenger-specific images and streamlining the checkpoint screening process. More than 6,000 runners, walkers and crawlers are set to conquer Savannah’s historic Talmadge Bridge, which rises 196 feet above the Savannah River and is two miles long. There’s a 5k, a 10k, and for the especially brave, a Double Pump combining the 5k and 10k. Double Pump runners will cross the bridge three times! It is nearing time for the annual Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run, where participants navigate on foot through the streets of historic downtown Savannah and over the beautiful Talmadge Memorial Bridge that connects Georgia to South Carolina.
Taking place Saturday, December 3, the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run gives participants the chance to conquer the massive Talmadge Bridge, which stands at a 1.4-mile span at a 5.5% grade, 196 feet above the Savannah River, on foot. With a variety of races including a 5K Run/Walk, a 10K Run, a Double-Pump Race, and a 1/4 mile Kids’ Run, as well as a fun after-race party with food, refreshments and live music, there’s something for everyone.
