These millimeter wave Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) units will have new software that officials said will enhance privacy by eliminating passenger-specific images and streamlining the checkpoint screening process.

To preserve privacy, every human “image” will look exactly the same, as the machines scan only for metal. In addition, the scanners are exceptionally safe as the energy emitted is 1000 times less than the international limits and guidelines. Congratulations to the Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport on being chosen as one of 16 airports in the nation to debut this new technology!

Savannah Aviation Village wishes good luck to all the brave folks running the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run tomorrow! More than 6,000 runners, walkers and crawlers are set to conquer Savannah’s historic Talmadge Bridge, which rises 196 feet above the Savannah River and is two miles long. There’s a 5k, a 10k, and for the especially brave, a Double Pump combining the 5k and 10k. Double Pump runners will cross the bridge three times! It’s certainly one of the most exciting events of the year, and we welcome any visitors staying with us in one of our ten hotels. Runners, walkers, crawlers – grab your running shoes!  It is nearing time for the annual Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run, where participants navigate on foot through the streets of historic downtown Savannah and over the beautiful Talmadge Memorial Bridge that connects Georgia to South Carolina.

 

Taking place Saturday, December 3, the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run gives participants the chance to conquer the massive Talmadge Bridge, which stands at a 1.4-mile span at a 5.5% grade, 196 feet above the Savannah River, on foot. With a variety of races including a 5K Run/Walk, a 10K Run, a Double-Pump Race, and a 1/4 mile Kids’ Run, as well as a fun after-race party with food, refreshments and live music, there’s something for everyone.

The Talmadge Memorial Bridge was originally built in 1943, but years later when the Savannah seaport needed to accommodate the large ocean liners, the bridge was rebuilt as the grand structure we see today.  The two-mile bridge provides breathtaking views of Savannah’s iconic River Street, Hutchinson Island, and blue waters of the Savannah River.
